FIRE
FIRE Calculator
Estimate a financial-independence number from annual expenses and a withdrawal rate, then simulate years to reach it with monthly investing.
FIRE number
FIRE number = annual expenses ÷ safe withdrawal rate. At 4%, ₹12 lakh of yearly spending implies a ₹3 crore portfolio in this model.
Years to FIRE
The simulator adds your monthly contribution and compounds monthly until the portfolio reaches the number, or 60 years elapse.
FIRE number
FIRE number = Annual expenses / SWR
SWR is the assumed safe withdrawal rate (for example 0.04 for 4%). Years to FIRE are simulated with monthly investing until the portfolio reaches that number.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 4% rule safe?
It is a planning heuristic from historical portfolio studies, not a promise. A lower withdrawal rate raises the FIRE number and usually the years required.
Does this include inflation?
Expenses are treated as constant in today’s rupees. If costs will rise, raise the expense figure or lower the assumed return.
What if I am already past the number?
Years to FIRE is 0. The gap is zero. You can still stress-test a higher expense or a lower withdrawal rate.
