PPF
PPF Calculator
Estimate a PPF corpus from annual contributions, duration and an interest rate you control. The rate is not presented as a guaranteed government figure.
How the calculator works
Public Provident Fund is a long-term deposit with interest compounded annually. This page assumes one contribution at the beginning of each year and compounds at the rate you enter. That keeps the maths visible. It is not a substitute for the passbook rules of a bank or post office account.
PPF formula
A = P × [((1 + r)^n − 1) / r] × (1 + r)
P is the annual contribution, r is the annual interest rate, and n is the number of years. Contributions are assumed at the beginning of each year with annual compounding.
Example
₹1,50,000 a year for 15 years at 7.1% invests ₹22,50,000 in total. The estimated maturity value is higher because each early contribution compounds for longer. Change the rate to see how sensitive the corpus is to notified-rate changes.
Important considerations
PPF has a lock-in, extension blocks, and limits on who may open an account. Interest rates are notified by the government and are not guaranteed by this website. Tax treatment depends on current law. Confirm rules with the account office before you invest.
Frequently asked questions
Is the default 7.1% the current official PPF rate?
No. It is only a starting assumption you can edit. The Government of India notifies PPF rates separately, and they can change. Look up the latest notified rate before you plan a contribution.
Does the calculator enforce the yearly contribution cap?
It does not block amounts above typical statutory limits. Caps can change. Verify the current minimum, maximum and eligible accounts before depositing.
When is interest credited?
PPF interest is compounded annually. In practice, the month of deposit can affect that year’s interest. This model treats one contribution as made at the start of each year so the formula stays transparent.
